Alprazolam is intended for the treatment of panic attacks and anxiety disorder. This medicine should be used only by people to whom it was prescribed because of certain contraindications and side effects possible. Tell your health care provider in advance that you are taking any other drugs – either prescribed by some other doctor or that you have bought from your local drugstore without a prescription. You should mention the fact of taking antidepressants, antihistamines, mental illness and seizure medications, oral contraceptives, sedatives, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, antifungals, nifedipine, diltiazem, isoniazid, amiodarone, propoxyphene, erythromycin, cyclosporine, nicardipine, clarithromycin or ergotamine. Being allergic to a number of medicines means that you will not be able to take alprazolam. This will help you to prevent the same serious reaction from happening again. If you ever had an allergic reaction to flurazepam, lorazepam, clorazepate, diazepam, halazepam, clonazepam, temazepam, chlordiazepoxide, quazepam, prazepam, oxazepam, triazolam, estazolam, or alprazolam do not start taking this medicine as a more severe reaction is possible. Report these symptoms only if they become severe and interfere with your everyday life: lightheadedness, dizziness, drowsiness, increased salivation, weight changes, difficulty urinating, dry mouth and changes in appetite. Otherwise you can count on these symptoms going away on their own.
